Claddagh Rings

The Claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring that represents love, loyalty and friendship. Usually it consists of hands holding a heart, with a crown (hands=friendship, heart=love, crown=loyalty). The design and customs associated with it originated in the Irish fishing village of Claddagh, located just outside the old city walls of Galway.
The ring as we know it was first produced in the 17th century. Claddagh rings symbolize pride in Irish heritage, as well as love or marriage. Claddagh rings are often used as friendship rings, as well as being used as engagement/wedding rings.
